Queen City students, teachers fish in the Texarkana Fishing Derby
Five students and three teachers from Queen City ISD braved the cold last week to participate in the 28th Annual Texarkana Fishing Derby.
This is an invitation only event for students with exceptionalities in the greater Texarkana area held at Spring Lake Park ADA accessible fishing dock.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife, City of Texarkana, Texas Fire Department, City of Texarkana, Texas Police Department, and Texarkana Challenged Outdoorsmen, in coordination with the Texarkana, Texas Parks and Recreation worked together to make this year an unforgettable and successful fishing event.
A containment tank was stocked with 1,100 rainbow trout, and volunteers helped students with special needs pull in three fish each. The trout were cleaned on site and packed in ice for the students to take home.
The success of the event was evident by the smiles on the faces of all the participants throughout the day. The QC students can’t wait to go back next year.
