Queen City students begin food drive for stray dogs

Sixth graders Mallory Hamilton and Bailee Black tackled a real world problem head on in their Gifted and Talented (GT) class at Morris Upchurch Middle School.

Students were asked to identify a problem in their community and come up with a solution. Mallory and Bailee, both animal lovers, were concerned about the large number of homeless, starving dogs in our community.

They decided to make a difference by taking donations for food and treats. Mallory and Bailee created their proposal, presented it to their principal, Susan Childress, and were ecstatic to receive approval to pursue their project.

The girls purchased a large bin to hold donations and placed it in the entryway of the middle school. They also created flyers to distribute around town.

If you’d like to help support the project, bring dog food and treat donations to Morris Upchurch Middle School between Mar. 29 and Apr. 30. Mallory and Bailee appreciate your help in combating this serious problem!
