Queen City ISD receives grant

Queen City ISD received a career training grant totaling $277,590 to train 70 students as welders in partnership with Texarkana College.

Longtime educator Joe Thompson and high school principal Janice McMellon accepted the check from Texas Workforce Commissioner Joe Esparza and a representative from North Central Texas College at the Region 8 Education Service Center on Oct. 2.

Through funding provided by the Legislature each biennium, TWC uses JET grants to defray start-up costs of developing or expanding career and technical education programs for public community, state and technical colleges, school districts and charter schools.

Equipment funded throug JET grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.
