Queen City Bulldogs crush Clarksville 44-7
Queen City traveled to Clarksville on Sept. 16, to battle the Tigers in a pre-district game.
Clarksville got on the board first but the Bulldogs ripped off 44 consecutive points and left town with a W.
The final tally was QC - 44, Clarksville - 7.
First Quarter
The Bulldogs received the ball to begin the contest but Queen City’s first drive fizzled after a quick threeand- out. After a punt the Tigers took over at its own 17-yard line. It only took six plays for Clarksville to cover 83 yards as the Tigers scored a touchdown at the 8:09 mark. The point after was good and QC went up 7-0.
The Bulldogs answered with a score of its own on the next drive.
After a nice 48-yard kickoff return by freshman DJ Henson, the Bulldogs sat up shop at its own 49.
Quarterback Clint Wiley gained six yards on the ground on the first play from scrimmage, followed by a 7-yard pass to receiver Rylee Green.
A penalty against the Dawgs erased a nice run by Wiley, but it wouldn’t deter QC as Wiley connected with Kaden Fincher on a 40-yard TD pass a lay later.
The PAT was no good but the Bulldogs were on the board with the score set at 7-6 with 6:31 left in the first frame.
Clarksville gift wrapped a fumble for the Bulldogs on its next drive and QC had prime real estate at the Tigers 7-yard line.
One snap, one handoff and running back Jeremiah Drayton crossed the goal line with 6:20 left on the clock.
The 2-point play was no good but QC was up 12-7. The Tigers bobbled the ensuing kickoff and a QC player pounced on it which set the Bulldogs up at the Clarksville 35.
Again a penalty against QC erased a nice run by Wiley, but Drayton picked up 36 yards on two carries to get down to the 2-yard line.
From there Wiley punched it into the endzone. The 2-point play was no good but QC increased its lead to 18-7 with 5:14 left in the first quarter.
The Bulldog defense forced a quick three-and-out on Clarksville’s next drive and the Tigers punted the ball away.
Working from the 31, Fincher took two handoffs and gained a combined 53 yards on the ground.
Wiley hit brother Brayden Wiley for a 4-yard gain before connecting with his brother again on a 12yard touchdown pass.
The 2-point play was no good but QC was up 24-7 with 2:18 left in the first stanza.
QC’s defense forced the Tigers to turn the ball over on downs during its next drive, and the quarter ended with Drayton bolting towards the end zone for 40 yards.
Second Quarter
The second quarter opened with Wiley taking the rock in from five yards out for another score, and doing the same on the 2-point play.
With 11:54 left in the first half QC was up 32-7. The clock would run for the remainder of the contest.
Clarksville couldn’t advance the ball too far on its next drive and the Bulldogs forced the Tigers to punt.
QC’s next drive covered 68 yards and began with runs by Wiley and Delvon Federick.
Wiley connected with Green for 19 yards, Daketrick Smith for seven and Fincher rushed for four yards.
Add in two penalties against the Tigers and QC was sitting at the Clarksville 5-yard line. From there Wiley scored his third rushing TD of the game.
The PAT was no good but QC was in firm control up 38-7 with 5:50 left in the third quarter.
Clarksville fumbled on its next drive but it was with time running out.
Third Quarter
Clarksville opened the second half with a nice drive but penalties killed it inside Bulldog territory.
After the punt locked down the Bulldogs at its own 14, Wiley hit Green on a nice pass and Green made some nice moves to get the ball downfield and across the goal line for a TD.
The PAT was no good but the Bulldogs were up 44-7 with 8:46 left on the clock.
Neither team advanced the ball for the rest of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Clarksville opened the final frame with a threeand- out and QC took over at its own 37 after the punt.
From there Messiah Grundy picked up 24 yards on six carries, Fincher picked up 20 on a sweep and QB Hunter Parker gained eight on one run.
From the 11-yard line and with time running out, the Bulldogs mishandled the snap on the ninth play of the drive and Clarksville recovered.
The Tigers got one more play off before the game ended.
Clint Wiley was a beast in pads as he rolled up 175 passing yards with three TDs and had 26 yards on the ground with three scores.
Drayton had 82 yards with a score, Fincher had 77 yards rushing and 40 yards receiving with a TD, Brayden Wiley had 16 yards receiving with a TD and Green posted 112 receiving yards with a score.
The Bulldogs travel to Elysian Fields this Friday, Sept. 23, to take on the Yellowjackets. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
