Here you are. The real McCoy. Texas in brick and stone. And that’s the late Charles Steger of Atlanta who as a historian and researcher did so much to promote Texas. He was one of the founders of the Cass County Genealogical Society.

Proud to be from Texas

Texas is not used to being second. But second it is in population and area.

Oh, Texas is the largest in land area of the 48 contiguous states. And it was here before Alaska was.

But, well, Texans aren’t used to bragging about things that aren’t just so. So we’re second in some ways.

Still, when looking around Cass County, the Texas name and shape are prominent, and nearly everyone has a Texas symbol either outside or inside the house. Now, in that regard, Texas is not second. Anybody ever see a state outline of Alaska or California around as if to congratulate them?

No, indeed There’s no other state with the marvelous shape and contour of Texas. We’re so proud we show the outline of our state to every entering vehicle coming from some other formless state.

You know you are in Texas. We put our emblem on the rooftop of barns to show the birds and airplanes.

If Texas could grow in size, we’d soon be first again, as we were for some 22 years before Seward had his folly and bought Alaska.

And we don’t really need to be first in population. Let California brag about that.

It’s fun to look around at the many artistic and functional images of Texas in the county. Here are five which caught the photog r a pher’s eye.
