Praise Ye the Lord
The Bible speaks of seven different kinds of praise.
Hallal- to boast of the wonders of the Lord, to dance. Psalms 50:1, this is where we get the word Hallelujah, which means praise the Lord.
Yadah- to revere, or worship, to lift up the hands. Psalms 6:31, this is where the name Judah came from. And Leah said, now will I praise (Yadah) the Lord, and she called his name Judah. Genesis 29:35.
Todah- same root word as Yadah, sacrifice of praise, thanksgiving, Psalms 50:23.
Barak- to bless, to kneel, to bow before him, Psalms 95:6.
Tehillah - a song or hymn of praise, a spontaneous expression of a spiritual son, Psalms 22:3.
Zamar- to make music, to sing praise, to play a musical instrument, Psalms 57:8-9.
Shabach- to exclaim, to shout, to praise or commend. Psalms 47:1, praise is a powerful weapon against the attack of the enemy. With three nations coming against Judah, King Jehoshaphat was worried, but God said “Don’t be afraid, the battle is not yours, but mine.”
So Jehoshaphat appointed singers that should praise as they went out before the army to battle, and sing “Praise the Lord, for his mercy endures forever.”
And as they sang and praised the Lord, He sent out ambushes against those nations and they went into confusion and began destroying one another. There is power in praise! When we begin to praise the Lord, it shifts our focus onto him and off of our worries, our troubles, and our selves. Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.
Psalms 107:8, begin to give him praise and see your spirits lift, see your outlook change, feel the joy of the Lord flood your soul. Psalms 150:1-6, praise ye the Lord, praise God in his sanctuary, praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts, praise him according to he is excellent greatness.
Praise him with the sound of the trumpet, praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance, praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
Praise him upon the loud cymbals. Praise him upon the high-sounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.
Come worship with us, where the praises of God flow. God bless.
