Post 258 raffles a thousand dollars
Atlanta’s J.E. Manning American Legion Post 258 awarded $1,000 in cash to a local supporter last week. Christy Buster of Atlanta had her name drawn from those participating in a fund-raising raffle, according to Gary Richardson, post member.
The local raffle is one of the post’s most successful fund raisers each year, Richardson added. Usually, it involves winning a high-class rifle but this time was simply a $1,000 check.
“‘Everybody in the post simply asks the public to participate in the raffle, and we apply all that we raise toward the post’s many service projects as well as our recent monument addition recognizing the Middle East War participants. This memorial is part of our Veterans’ Plaza,” Post Commander Michael Stewart said.
Another of the post’s service projects is the sending of junior class high school students to the Texas Boys State and Texas Bluebonnet Girls State each year.
Richardson added that a coming project for the post will be to repair the post’s meeting building which is needing new flooring. The building is at 308 North Louise.
