Pleasant Hill Community Juneteenth Celebration
For several years, Pleasant Hill Community had a Juneteenth celebration. Due to pandemic protocol, it did not happen in the last couple of years. However, Oteria McDaniel, Larry Young, Malthus Northcutt, and others have been working hard to bring the Cass County Juneteenth celebration to Pleasant Hill once again this year on Saturday, June 18th.
There will be a 2.5-mile walk/run starting at 9:00 a.m, commemorating the two and half years it took for Texas to get the word that President Lincoln had signed the emancipation proclamation. Vendors will be available; games will be set up for all ages; an underground railroad sampler quilt will go to one lucky winner; there will be ribbons and prizes and t-shirts galore.
At noon the program kicks off with poems, songs, and commemorative stories from the elders in the church sanctuary, 2700 FM 1399, Linden, TX.
Then from 1:00-4:00 p.m., more prizes will be awarded just for having a good time or showing off your favorite dessert. Everyone is welcome to attend, admission is free.
