Pleasant Hill 100Th Anniversary

Sharon Haynes is home now. She’s among the last graduates of Pleasant Hill’s Rosenwald School which closed in 1964. It had just 23 students.

She’s at the same school which is celebrating its Rosenwald centennial this year —1925 to 2025. The school is a symbol of community encouragement and opportunity. It had two rooms with two teachers, and the same playground swing, merry-goround, slide and storm cellar.

The school is a national historic landmark

Sharon Haynes is being playfully pushed on the school’s original merry-go-round in the same way she did as a student — thanks to Francis Miller. Note the concrete storm cellar at right and the school in the background.
