Passenger flees on foot after traffic stop
Around 8:30 a.m. on July 25, a Linden Police Department patrol unit conducted a traffic stop on a silver Hyundai Elantra traveling 66 MPH in a posted 55 MPH zone on U.S. Highway 59 within the city limits of Linden.
The vehicle failed to immediately yield and continued southbound before eventually stopping at the Linden Fuel Center.
Upon contact, the driver was unable to provide any form of identification and admitted to not possessing a driver’s license. A strong odor of marijuana was detected from the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were asked to step out of the car.
The driver verbally identified himself and was later found to be on Federal felony probation for burglary out of Bowie County.
The passenger initially provided false identifying information. After further investigation and assistance from local and state law enforcement partners, the passenger was positively identified as Jaquavion Williams, a wanted fugitive with multiple active felony warrants out of Bowie County.
As officers attempted to detain Williams, he fled on foot across U.S. Highway 59 and into a nearby field. After a brief pursuit involving multiple officers, he was apprehended in the backyard of a residence on Dogwood Street.
Williams was taken into custody and transported to the Cass County Jail, where he was booked for Fail to Identify Fugitive - Intentionally give false info., Evading Arrest or Detention and Multiple Active Felony Warrants in Bowie County.
