LOCAL TRAIN DERAILMENT:

At approximately 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, Caddo Parish Sherrif ’s deputies responded to a train derailment in Rodessa, Louisiana.

The small Louisiana town rests about 15 miles south of the Cass County/East Texas border.

No Injuries were reported and no hazardous materials were involved in the derailment, according to CPSO officials.

CPSO reported that at about 6:00 a.m., deputies headed to the north end of Caddo Parish in response to the train derailment. Caddo Fire District Eight was also on the scene and agreed that no hazardous materials were released as a result of the derailment.

Road closures have remained for several days as crews work to remove remnants of the wreckage and mangled rail cars. Louisiana State Highway 1 north and southbound lanes are closed, so motorists traveling north of the derailment were being diverted to United Gas Company Road 3.

Those traveling south of the derailment were being diverted to Rodessa State-Line Road, as crews continued cleanup.

KCS (Kansas City Southern) reported on Friday that the derailment in Rodessa would have no impact on Cass County or Northeast Texas.
