New district realignments in store for teams across the state
Every two years the UIL realignment process can be an exciting for some fans, players and coaches or it can it can be a total nightmare.
Monday, Feb. 3, the UIL released the new district realignments for football, basketball and volleyball.
Linden-Kildare
Linden-Kildare has been all over the map with the past few UIL shakeups.
Last year the Tigers faced a brutal lineup of Shelby and Panola County teams.
The next two football seasons will see the Tigers literally all over the map as they play Beckville, Big Sandy, Frankston, Union Grove, Hawkins and Price-Carlisle in what is now 2A, Div. 1, District 9 in Region 3.
The Tigers are familiar with both Beckville and Hawkins but from what I could find they have never played football against Union Grove, Frankston or Price Carlisle.
L-K has played Big Sandy once but it was way back in 1933.
Schedules like this are horrific for some schools but L-K is used to driving several miles to play ball.
Beckville is between Tatum and Carthage which is a one way trip of 63 miles, Big Sandy is a 56 mile trip one way down Hwy 155, Frankston is between Athens and Jacksonville and no matter which route you take it’s more than 100 miles one way, Union Grove is between Gilmer and Gladewater and is 57 miles one way, Hawkins is between Big Sandy and Mineola which is 62 miles one way and Price-Carlisle is 85 miles one way tucked between Henderson and New Summerfield.
Beckville (2-8, 1-5), Frankston (4-5, 3-4) and Union Grove (4-6, 1-4) missed out on the playoffs this past season.
Price-Carlisle (8-4, 4-1) placed second in district last season and lost in the second round, Hawkins (4-9, 3-2) placed third in its district and lost in the first round of the playoffs and Big Sandy (4-8, 2-3) placed fourth in its district but did go two rounds deep in the playoffs.
In basketball (2A, District-16, Region 2) L-K will play Rivercrest, Clarksville, Detroit, Maud, McLeod and James Bowie.
In volleyball (2A, District-17, Region 3) L-K will play Rivercrest, Clarksville, Detroit, Maud, James Bowie, Avery and Sulphur Bluff.
Atlanta
Atlanta will play Gladewater, Sabine, Tatum, White Oak, Jefferson and New Boston for the next two seasons in football in what is now 3A, Div. 1, District 6 in Region 2.
As far as basketball (3A-District 14, Region 2) and volleyball (3A-District 14, Region 2) go the Rabbits will play: Queen City, DeKalb, Hooks, New Boston, Pewitt and Redwater.
Queen City
Queen City was tossed into a brutal district the past two years which boasted teams like Pewitt, Daingerfield, Waskom, New Diana and Elysian Fields.
For the next two years the Bulldogs will play New Diana, Ore City, Waskom, Hughes Springs, Elysian Fields and Harleton in what is now 3A, Div. 2, District 14 in Region 3.
The Bulldogs will play basketball (3A-District 14, Region 2) and volleyball (3A-District 14, Region 2) against familiar foes in Atlanta, DeKalb, Hooks, New Boston, Pewitt and Redwater.
Bloomburg
Bloomburg will play the same teams for basketball (Avery, Avinger, Union Hill, Saltillo and Sulphur Bluff) as it has the past few years with the addition of Yantis in what is now 1A, District 24 in Region 3.
McLeod
McLeod will play the same teams it has played the past two seasons for basketball.
The lineup of Rivercrest, Clarksville, Detroit, Maud, James Bowie and Linden-Kildare will make up the new 2A, District 16 in Region 2.
