MY SIDE OF TOWN: Adult Safety 101

Here are a few tips to help your elderly adults be a little safer at home. Someone is always watching and waiting to take advantage of our elderly.

First thing is lighting; the front porch and back door should be well lit. Even installing some motion sensor lights would be nice. You can install them all around the house.

We have doorbell cameras now, which is nice. But you need a backup camera just in case that one becomes damaged. Another piece of advice is have cameras installed on your phones also.

There are all kinds of security devices you can add on your phone, window alerts, talking alerts and more. If a trespasser hears a voice, they usually get away and if your parents hear it attentive, they will awaken. There are alarms to put on beds.

Our elderly are not safe; people take advantage of the weak and they think they can just do older people any kind of way. Sometimes you can do a weekly check and alert thing. Or even twice a week.

Safety is the key; we have people missing and never found. People getting taken from their homes and people getting picked up off the streets that we never hear about. I just thought I would give a few suggestions for safety for our older adults. They might not think they need it but better safe than sorry.
