My Side of Town: A.C. Car Care

On Friday, Dec. 20 around 10 p.m., a fire occurred on Murray Street in Atlanta.

It was A.C. Car Care. The fire depai1ment worked hard to put it out, but it went up in flames.

Thirty years ago, Pastor Williams started this business, because he loved a clean car.

He cleaned cars, trucks and school buses, tractor trailer and boats. If it was dirty, he would clean it. It hasn’t been found out what started the fire, but they are thinking electric.

It was not just a detail shop, it was a place where men gathered around to talk about the Bible, community problems and other things.

Anytime one of his members needed him, in the hospital, nursing homes, emergency room, he would leave the shop and go and pray with them.

He also drove the school bus for Queen City ISD, and he would return to the shop and clean some cars afterwards.

When asked if he was going to rebuild, he told me, “It might be time to retire”.

I could see the sadness in his eyes, because he did most of the building himself. It was his home away from home. He loves preaching, and he loved to clean a car, just to hear that customer say, “that’s a great job”!

He sewed the community well; he gave jobs to a lot of people to get them started. We will miss the detail shop and wish him all the luck.
