Mount of Blessing
Mount of Blessing started in summer of 1923, several citizens of Atlanta, Texas felt that on old fashioned camp meeting should be established in or near the city. This feeling was put into action by Rev. Mary Ellen Perdue assisted by J.R. Ramsey with the cooperation of many others.
This an inter-denominational camp was organized and was fittingly named The Mount of Blessing Holiness Association. Rev. J W. Land was elected president. Mr. J.F. Ramsey- vice pres., Rev. Mary E. Perdue sec. Mrs. Arrie Edwards, Treasure. a suitable board of Trustees was elected after much prayer.
An acre of land overlooking this city from that beautiful hilltop on the Northwest side was purchased.
A spacious Tabernacle was erected and the lighting of the same was in the neighborhood of two thousand dollars.
This was purely a “Faith “project since there was no money in sight. The first encampment was in august, the summer of 1923, the evangelist was Rev. Robert A. Young, a young methodist minister who was entertained in home of Mr. J.A. Cobb.
By the second year more acreage was bought, several c cottages and dining rooms built. A preacher home was erected by Mrs. F.M. Greene. Mount Blessing had many revivals every August and had cottages for widows and homeless people.
The tabernacle was located right where Armstrong Street is today, also Aldrin Street and part of Allday Street. It was the highest point. There was another tabernacle erected named Church of God Prophecy on Carney Street, which hold many activities.
