MLK to be honored by local groups
The Linden Heritage Foundation and the Linden Martin Luther King, Jr. Club will hold a program with the Pleasant Hill Quilters, Linden, Texas. The event will be a celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It will be held in the Courtroom at the Historic Cass County Courthouse on January 15, 2022 at 2 p.m.
A chance discovery of an antique quilt at a flea market inspired the start of the Quilters in 2004. It proved to be an authentic relic from the era of American slavery. Through recreated quilting patterns and robust song performances and clad in colorful handmade bonnets and aprons, this group of women works to decode and preserve a cryptic fragment of history, explaining how multitudes of people escaped slavery as they traveled the Underground Railroad.
