Mayor merits Major

Travis Ransom was in Orlando, Fla. the weekend of January 11, he had the honor of taking the Senior Enlisted position of Command Sergeant Major with the 321st Expeditionary Military Intelligence Battalion. The photos highlight the change of responsibility ceremony.

According to Ransom, “The senior enlisted advisor duties and job dates back to the civil war. The passing of the Noncommissioned Officer Saber symbolizes the change of responsibility from one leader to another. The NCO Saber was adopted by the war department in 1840, and was used as a weapon by NCOs for over 70 years. Today we see the NCO saber in symbols, depicted in unit crests and unit patches. It represents the Noncommissioned officer’s ability to cut to the heart of the matter, and take swift, decisive action. If you come by my office, you will see mine hanging on the wall as a constant reminder.” Mayor Ransom, along with his duties as the Mayor and as an insurance agent for Offenhauser & CO is also currently enlisted in the Army Reserve, Federal force.”
