Mayor awarded Bronze Star

Atlanta, Texas Mayor and Army Reserve Command Sergeant Major Travis Ransom has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the nation’s fourth highest award for service in a combat zone.

Ransom deployed to Afghanistan late last year as part of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel where he served as the Command Sergeant Major for an Expeditionary Military Intelligence Battalion comprised of over 500 Soldiers and contractors arrayed over six countries.

During this deployment, Ransom temporarily assumed command of a forward deployed multi-disciplined intelligence company operating in Afghanistan across eight outstations in the Combined Joint Operational Area-Afghanistan.

Ransom successfully led during unusually uncertain times through the COVID-19 pandemic, a presidential transition, and military retrograde of America’s longest war. Upon return from the middle-east. Ransom will resume his duties as Mayor of Atlanta, Texas and return to his civilian occupation as an insurance agent with Offenhauser & Co Insurance.

As an Army Reserve Citizen-Soldier, Ransom has been called to active-duty multiple times in support of peacekeeping and contingency operations around the world. His other awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and numerous other campaign and service awards. Ransom has served over twenty-four years in the Army Reserve and has been selected to take a Brigade Command Sergeant Major Position upon his return.
