Marvin Kelly Jr.
Marvin Kelly was born in Linden, Texas, graduated from Fairview School in Linden and married his wife Allene in 1967. The couple has two sons.
Kelly worked at Day and Zimmerman for 39 years and became the first Black supervisor on the job in 1966. Kelly has always volunteered for activities in Linden such as being a softball umpire for 18 years, ambulance service for 10 years and serving on the Linden City Council. Kelly was the first Black member on the Council as well, but to top it off, he became the Ffrst Black Mayor of Linden, Texas in 1993 and stayed in office until 2000.
He still cannot stop doing things in Linden. He is the president of the Historical Society there. He said he started from nothing, but he wanted to help Linden grow.
