Marching Bands do well in area competitions

It was a busy few days for Cass County marching bands. The commitment that flows towards perfection from our area bands continues to be legendary as many of the Northeast Texas area bands are fresh off State Competition placements from last year.

For those unfamiliar with high school band in Northeast Texas, there is a high standard with big expectations. Students begin their day early before school and at least once a week practicing well after dinner time. This is not to mention the additional weekend practices and competitions. This commitment has brought them rewards at State and in area competitions, such as this weekend.

This weekend our three area Cass County bands played for the usual rowdy football crowd followed by band contests all day, and into the evening Saturday, and then all of Monday and into the evening. On both days band students got home after 10 p.m.

On Saturday the Big Bad Band from Rabbit Land won the Mount Pleasant band competition, receiving perfect marks of 1 in Percussion, Guard, Drum Majors, and Band (1-3 Rating, 1 is the best). The Linden Band did very well too earning a 1 for percussion, 1 for Drum Major, and a 2 for Band.

In a separate competition, Queen City performed well at The Power Band Classic at Lake Hamilton. They received all ones and had the best guard, percussion, and band for 3A. Overall performing against 5A to 7A bands the Band of Champions came in seventh at preliminaries and sixth place overall.

On Monday both Queen City and Atlanta drove their busses down to Mineola, with both schools making it to the finals. Atlanta finished third and Queen City eighth.

Unfortunately for High School Se- niors, their respective school’s area bands, Atlanta and Queen City do not participate in the state band competition this year. They only participate in UIL State Band every other year. Linden-KIldare will have an opportunity to fight for the state band competition this year for their respective division.

Publishers Note: Linden’s Ron Williams, Atlanta’s Keith Sanders and Queen City’s Billy Vess and their respective coaches deserve a great deal of applause for the tireless work they do to get their bands ready every year.

Congratulations on your success!
