LPD implements use of gun cameras

On Aug. 12, 2021 the Linden Police Department purchased and implemented the use of Viridian Camera Technology, specifically, the Fact Duty Gun Camera. The department was able to purchase the gun cameras using funds that were forfeitures of illegally obtained US Currency and Narcotic seizures awarded to the Department by the District Court.

With the implementation of these gun cameras, the department will now be able to document and record each time an officer removes his/her firearm from the holster, upon the firearm being drawn from the holster, the camera automatically activates and begins recording.

The gun camera is equipped with a microphone that automatically begins recording upon the firearm being drawn, the gun camera is also equipped with a 500 lumen flashlight and a green laser, both of which have the capability of being set for automatic activation upon the firearm being drawn.

With the implementation of the gun cameras, all actions of officer and violator, visual and audible, will be able to be seen and heard in situations where an officers body camera footage my be obstructed or unclear do to the extension of his/her arm holding a firearm.

The Viridian Fact Duty Gun Camera is seated on the tip of the firearm, causing no obstructions nor having any obstructions in its line of view.

This will be a valuable asset to the Department and its Officers, protecting and preserving the rights of the Officer’s and Citizen’s alike.
