Local cemetery trampled by recreational vehicles
Four-wheeler and motorcycle tracks through Courtland Cemetery in Queen City have one local resident concerned about vandalism in the final resting place of loved ones.
Melvin Elrod, a longtime resident of Cass County who lives near the cemetery, visits the resting place of his father often. Noting that it was not the first time ATVs had driven through the cemetery, Elrod erected pillars around his father’s burial site but said they offered little protection as the tracks are noticeable around and on top of the site.
Elrod said the vandalism happened at some point last week as he visits his father once a week and that he contacted local law enforcement but there was little they could do.
“I had the constable out here, he looked, and that was the end of it”, Elrod said, “I tried to call the board [cemetery] but could not get an answer.”
If anyone has information about this incident, Elrod urges them to call the Sheriff ’s office.
