Linden continues city street repairs

Just two weeks ago, Linden City Council members voted on the next round of streets to repair as they continue improvement projects for the city.

Kaufman and Banger streets were approved by the city council for the latest repairs, according to Linden City Manager Lee Elliot.

At a special meeting of the city council last week, Lee said Francis Excavating was awarded the bid for the job.

“Francis excavating had the low bid of the two we received, at $545,852.30,” Elliot said. “(Francis) were the ones who did the School Lane street repair.”

The $545,852.30 bid made by Francis for the Kaufman and Banger Streets project was about $40,000 lower than other bids. This is because the company is closer than others, and won’t have the extra expenses of moving a lot of their equipment, Elliot said.

“The special meeting is where we officially awarded the big for Kaufman and Banger streets to Francis Excavating,” Elliot said. “This is the firm that actually did School Lane.”

Francis Excavating also worked on refurbishing a large retention pond after there was a drainage problem at the park.

“We received a $2 million dollar general land office grant to fix that,” Elliot said, of the retention pond that was refurbished.

Elliot said the city is eager to get these streets done as Wildflower Trails quickly approaches in the spring.

“We want to get Kaufman done as quickly as possible, with Wildflower Trails coming up really soon,” Elliot said.
