Linden City Council names new police chief
Linden City Council made the motion to name Eric Lee as the new Linden Police Chief at the recommendation of the police chief search committee at the monthly meeting on Mon., Nov. 13.
“For those of you know who may know we had a committee that recommended they did not select anybody and the committee was unanimous on who they recommended, we had a council meeting to interview the final two candidates and they recommended the same person,” said Linden Mayor Clarence Burns.
The final two candidates were Allen Williams and Eric Lee.
Lee will begin his new position as the Linden police chief on Jan. 1, 2017.
Lee said a few words after council passed the motion to hire him as the replacement for Linden Police Chief Alton McWaters.
“I have been with the county for 24 years and I am very proud that you found the faith in me that I could work for the City of Linden, I am going to do my very best for the citizens of Linden and I claim to be here as long as I can be here,” said Lee.
Lee also spoke about Linden Police Chief Alton McWaters.
“He has worked very hard for the past 30 years, he is a very caring person, a lot of people may not know that about him, he takes good care of his officers and good care to the citizens of Linden and I just want to make that known,” said Lee.
Lee comes from the Cass County Sheriff’s office where he is a deputy and has served there for the past 24 years.
