Lights are on again at the Church of Christ in Bloomburg
The lights are on again at the little rust-colored brick building at the center of town in Bloomburg.
The building, which in the past, has been a Methodist Church and then a community center is now a church of some 38 members. It describes itself as being active.
Church supporters Daniel and April Britton and others were recently at the Cullen Baker Fair giving out free bottles of water from the church’s table. This was appropriate.
“We’ve been a very active group,” Daniel Britton said. “We just want to let people know we are here. We’re the Cass County Church of Christ and have been looking for a home. We want to be a good influence in the community.”
The Church of Christ had been meeting in peoples’ homes for about two years, the Brittons continued to explain. Then, the community center which wasn’t being used and belonged to the city of Bloomburg became available.
“We got together, purchased the building and then made the repairs needed. Recently we went knocking on doors and just inviting people. Making contact that’s our big thing. We were at last year’s Cullen Baker Fair giving out water then, too,” Daniel said.
The early church went out into the world, so the Cass County Church of Christ is doing that, the leader said.
New signage and a plaque of explanation tell the story and purpose of this new addition to the town. The lights are indeed on.
One of the best ways to get acquainted is to attend the 6:30 p.m. Wednesday time of Bible Study, the members say.
