LEDC Update
I’ve seen the light! And hopefully you have too. The historic 1934 water tower is now sporting a fresh coat of paint and the lighting system is back up as well. I want to say thank you to everyone who patiently awaited the return of the lights. It was a time-consuming process clearing the rust from the tower and giving it its new paint job, but I believe it was well worth it. Now that the tower has its metallic aluminum color back, it can stand as a shining beacon for Linden during the day as well as at night.
Additionally, we have a wonderful Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration coming up this weekend. On Saturday, January 25th , the annual MLK Jr. Day parade will take place downtown at noon. The LEDC is a proud sponsor of this event and we’re thrilled to have it take place again this year.
The Linden Heritage Foundation has also coordinated its Annual Membership Meeting to take place immediately following the parade in the Historic Courthouse on the square. This meeting is open to the public and all are highly encouraged to attend. The meeting will culminate with a presentation by Mr. Malthus Northcutt entitled “The Civil Rights Struggle in the Time of Martin Luther King, Jr.: A Vision that Changed the World.” Mr. Northcutt is an excellent speaker and I’m especially looking forward to his presentation.
Last Saturday morning, we had the privilege of hosting a meeting of the 4-H College & Career Readiness Club [C&CRC] at our office. This is a fairly new club that is a part of our local 4-H, and I’m so excited that we’re getting to work with them. The club is geared specifically toward Junior High and High School students to help them find their strengths and take the first steps down their career paths. The club has a lot of fantastic activities planned in the coming months including ACT/SAT prep and developing resumes, so enrolling in the club early will be crucial to not missing any activities. If you would like further information about the club, you can contact Larry Allen at larryallen.4h@gmail.com or John Ferguson at john.ferguson@ag.tamu.edu.
This new 4-H club is a truly exciting new asset for our community. Giving our community’s children a leg up on their future is such an invaluable service and I am so glad we now have a group like this. I know I’ve written a good bit recently about the value of investing in our young people, and this club is another prime example of just that. The future of Linden’s labor market lies on the shoulders of its next generation and I believe that no investment is too large when considering that we’re shaping that next generation.
