LEDC Update

Things remain busy for the LEDC. In addition to our annual audit, we have begun generating annual reports that we turn into the state comptroller as well as the USDA.

Indeed, year-end for economic development corporations entails a great amount of information gathering and reporting.

In the interest of keeping my sanity amidst all the paperwork I’ve been having to pour over of late, I’ll be keeping this article a little shorter than usual.

Speaking of year-end reporting, I want to give a special shout-out to the Linden Lion’s Club. Last week, the club had its “year-in-review” meeting and the results presented were spectacular.

All totaled, the Linden Lion’s Club conducted 8 separate projects over the course of this last year ranging from raffles & carnival games to feeding veterans and their families breakfast at the Veterans’ Salute event that took place in September.

The club also raised money for scholarships and to send LK High School students to Boys and Girls State. If you see a member of the Linden Lion’s Club, be sure to congratulate them on all their hard work, or better yet, ask them for an application to the club so you can sign up and be a part of all the great things they do next year!

I want to finish this article off with condolences to the families affected by the terrible auto accident that took place near LK High School early Saturday morning. The two students that were lost were greatly loved by their school and their community and the loss will remain with all of us for a long time to come. The LEDC also sends its prayers to those who were hospitalized in the wake of the accident.

In the face of tragedies like these, I always feel especially fortunate that I live in a city like ours. Our community is an especially caring one and we are able to truly show that when we’re given the opportunity to rally around our neighbors when they are hurting. As the holiday season continues, please continue to send up prayers for those affected.

The holidays can be a stressful time for many of us and we can tend to lose ourselves thinking only of the material aspects.

However, as we all know, life is precious and it can be taken away from us very abruptly, so I believe it’s important to remember that for all that comes along with them, the holidays are chiefly a time for gathering with family and those that we love—a time for demonstrating how much we care about one another.

Giving gifts is one way that we can do that, but it’s only one way. Spending time with each other, sharing experiences, and just loving one another are just as valid and often more important ways to go about demonstrating how much we value our loved ones.
