Judge Ransom signs Burn Ban Lift for Cass County
Cass County Judge Travis Ransom signed a Burn Ban Lift a little after 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Mar. 9.
The area was draped in much needed rain over the weekend but fire personnel still adivse caution when burning.
The first few months of 2026 have been unusually windy and dry albeit an ice storm and some rain.
Recently, two fires in Cass County scorched several acres before crews were able to get everything under control.
If you’re burning debris or brush, make sure you’re doing it safely to prevent fires that could spread to your home or your neighbor’s dwelling or ignite a forest fire.
Remember to keep your burn pile away from structures, trees and power lines, clear a 10-foot radius around the pile down to bare soil to prevent flames from spreading, keep a hose, bucket of water, or shovel with dirt/sand ready in case the fire spreads, stay with your fire at all times and make sure it’s completely out before you leave and drown fires with plenty of water and stir to make sure everything is cold to the touch.
