Judge Barbara McMillon retires

Cass County Connect

January 3rd marked the end of over 33 years of service to Cass County for Barbara Mc-Millon as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1.

For over 30 years Barbara McMillon has been a name synonymous with justice, order, reliability, competency, and Cass County. She has been the senior Justice of the Peace for Cass County and been the one law enforcement officers and other judges turned to for advice about statutory elements of a crime, decision making processes, or just a good old-fashioned dose of common-sense.

Throughout her time as Justice of the Peace she has presided over countless cases, claims, disputes, and deaths. The somber and sobering work of inquest investigations is perhaps one of more unpleasant aspects of the job as Justice of the Peace. It is a grizzly reminder of how impermanent life is. That is why it is so remarkable that Judge McMillon would choose to devote so much of her life in the service of others in her hometown of Linden and Cass County.

Barbara also presided over countless memorable moments of matrimony and is likely featured in the scrapbooks and photo albums of countless Cass County families hopeful about their future.

Public service is a calling and it is one that is impossible to ignore. Being a part of something bigger than one’s self is a significant thing and worthy of recognition.

As she steps into retirement, we celebrate her career and thank her for her invaluable contributions. On January 3rd, Judge McMillon officially retired and swore in her long time chief clerk Terri Price as the newest Justice of the Peace for Cass County Precinct One.
