Joseph Grady Harrison
Joseph Grady Harrison was born September 1833 in Alabama, he married 22 October 1857 in Calhoun County, Arkansas to Sarah P. Smith, born November 1835 in Sumner County. Tennessee. They moved to the Cusseta area of Cass County, Texas from Calhoun County. Arkansas by 1860, along with the James Smith family, a brother of Sarah and the Daniel H. and Rebecca Tobin family, Rebecca was a sister to Joseph Grady Harrison.
On the 14th of July 1862, Joseph G. Harrison enlisted at Linden, Texas, where he served as a Private in Company “G” Morgan’s Regiment of the Texas Cavalry Battalion. This company was formed by consolidation of Major Charles L. Morgan’s Squadron Texas Cavalry, Captain B. D. McKie s Squadron Texas Cavalry and Captain William B. Denson’s Squadron Louisiana and Texas Cavalry and three other companies.
Daniel H. and Rebecca HARRISON Tobin and their children had returned to Hampton, Calhoun County, Arkansas by the late 1860’s.
James A. F. Harrison, a younger brother of Joseph had returned to Calhoun County, Arkansas from Cass County also, where he married Mary Gossett on 11 February 1867. Joseph G. and Sarah Harrison were not on the 1870 Davis [Cass] County Census, but they could have been missed by the census taker.
Joseph and Sarah were in the Cusseta area of Cass County in 1880 with their children, Charles Edward, Hugh Donald, Joseph J., John William, Malissa A., Sallie, Beatrice Rebecca, Benjamín Wyatt, and Alabama. Joseph Grady Harrison died 8 February 1908 at Bryans Mill in Cass County, Texas and he was buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Sarah P. SMITH Harrison, his wife, died 2 December 1910 and she was buried beside her husband in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bryans Mill.
Charles Edward Harrison was born to Joseph Grady and Sarah P. SMITH Harrison the 8th of August 1858 in Calhoun County, Arkansas. He married 1 August 1897 in Cass County, Texas to Margaret Hettie Kimmel, she was born 12 July 1880 to Phillip and Frances REIHTER Kimmel. To this union, seven children were born, Lizzie Bell, Harold Edwin, Isham Wilder, Annie Loyce, Abbie Lura, Irma, and Metta. Charles Edward Harrison died 3 January 1943 and Margaret died the following year, 23 February 1944. they were both buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bryans Mill.
Hugh Donald Harrison was born to Joseph Grady and Sarah P. SMITH Harrison the 16lh July 1860 in Cass County. Texas. He married 17 January 1883 in Cass County to Mollie Ann Vandiver, she was born 23 February 1858 in South Carolina to Samuel Mathew and Martha RICHEY Vandiver.
To this union, eight children were born, Delia Florence, Alonzo Lewis, Emmett Leon, Clarence Estelle, Annie May, Benjamin Walter, Carlton, and Vernon. Hugh Donald Harrison died 19 March 1950 in Cass County, Mollie Ann had preceded him in death, 25 February 1911 they were both buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bryans Mill.
Joseph J. Harrison was born to Joseph Grady and Sarah P. SMITH Harrison in 1865. He married 15 December 1884 in Cass County. Texas to Rosie W. Smith, she was born about 1870 in Georgia. To this union, six children were born, Carrie Lee, Claud Seaburn, Charles M., Johnnie Cluren, Bryan H., and Ludell. Joseph J. Harrison died in 1950, he was buried at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, his wife, Rosie W. SMITH Harrison had preceded him in death in 1945 and she was buried at the Oakridge Cemetery at Marietta, Cass County, Texas.
John William Harrison was born to Joseph Grady and Sarah P. SMITH Harrison the 21” February 1867, he married Idora Jeffcoat, she was born 9 February 1875 to Samuel and Rebecca ROSDICK Jeffcoat. To this union, ten children were born, Joseph Morgan, Itis Nellie, Ellie Lou, Jimmie Ludell. Willie, Thomas Wesley, James, John Merriel, and two infants that died at birth.
John William Harrison died 18 November 1943 in Cass County, Idora died the 2 March 1954 in Cass County, and they were both buried at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bryans Mill.
Malissa A. Harrison was born to Joseph Grady and Sarah P. SMITH Harrison the 13th of May 1868. she married 12 January 1888 in Cass County, Texas to Virgil Horace Morgan, he was born 7 September 1863 to John & Mahalia MIRES Morgan. To this union, six children were born. William Horace, Roy Harvey, Mae, Lona, Thelma, and Ina Kate. Virgil Horace Morgan died 19 May 1908 and Malissa A. HARRISON Morgan died 20 August 1954, they were both buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bryans Mill.
Beatrice Rebecca Harrison was born to Joseph Grady and Sarah P. SMITH Harrison December 1869. She married 13 October 1887 in Cass County, Texas to John William Vandiver, he was born September 1864 in South Carolina. To this union, seven children were born, Lillis Mae, Nada, Opal, J. D., Sybil G., Ethel S., and Lela Belle. By 1910 John William and Beatrice Vandiver had moved to Hopkins County, Texas, then on to Dickens County, Texas by 1920. John William and Beatrice Rebecca HARRISON Vandiver were not buried in Cass County, Texas.
Benjamín Wyatt Harrison was born to Joseph Grady and Sarah P. SMITH Harrison May 1872. He married 4 August 1895 in Cass County, Texas to Nora B. Vandiver, she was born November 1871. To this union, eleven children were born, William Jesse. Jewell, J. D., Fred, Grace. Lloyd Toyah, Virgil Henry, Era Kate, Ruby. Fay and one infant which died when he was almost a year old. Benjamín and Nora VANDIVER Harrison were not buried in Cass County, Texas.Sallie Harrison was born to Joseph Grady and Sarah P. SMITH Harrison December 1874. She was married 18 December 1891 in Cass County, Texas to William H. Mathews, he was born 1872. No further information is known about William H. and Sallie Mathews.
Alabama Harrison was born to Joseph Grady and Sarah P. SMITH Harrison May 1877. No further information is known about Alabama Harrison.
