John C. Plum family
John C. Plum was born 11 September 1834 in Frederick County, Virginia. This was in the Shenandoah River Valley Between Richmond and Washington, B.C. He was the son of James R.(born 10 July 1810 and died 14 February 1894) and Mary SIMMONS Plum (born 20 June 1819 and died 26 January 1896) of Virginia. John C. was a full blood “Irishman” married Leah Jane Huffman on 02 August 1864 in Winchester, Virginia.
Leah Jane was born 26 May 1838 in South Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Rachel Huffman of Pennsylvania, a full blood “Holland” Black Dutch woman. John C, served 3 Vi years in the Confederate Army Co D 33rd Regiment of the Virginia Infantry. John died 22 February 1915 and Leah Jane died 19 June 1905 and both of them are buried in the Old Liberty Cemetery near Antioch community.
John C. left his wife and first baby in Virginia and went to Des Moines Township, Mahaska County, Iowa to work in sawmills where some of his family were already working. Leah Jane and baby came to Iowa when the baby was 1 year old where 8 of their 9 children were born. They came to Texas from Iowa in 1884. They stopped in the Green Hill Community of Titus County out of Mt. Pleasant, but soon settled on what was later called “The John Hinton farm” he owned and worked with his boys for a “Mr. Stoner”, a sawmill and timber man from Iowa. Some of the children were nearly grown when they came to Texas in 1884.
John C. and Leah Jane Plum were parents of:
1. William (Will) was born 01 July 1865 and died 23 September 1911. He married Virginia Pauline RIDDLE in 1890 and both are buried in Damascus Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
2. Charles Alexandra was born 20 November 1867 and died 24 August 1947. He married (1) Mary Ann RIDDLE and married (2) Jennie BOBO 04 Nov 1900 born 04 January 1881 and died 23 January 1949. Both he and Jennie are buried in Old Liberty Cemetery.
3. James Samuel (Sam) was born 29 November 1869 and died 06 April 1934. He married (1) Annie DAWSON and (2) Minnie J. Westmoreland Wilson. Both Samuel and Minnie are buried in Courtland Cemetery.
4. Robert Luther was born 16 November 1871 and died 26 November 1934. He married (1) Idellia Thomas from Macedonia, AR (2) Willie BOBO 06 September 1898. Robert and Willie both are buried in Courtland Cemetery.
5. Mary Etta was born 17 February 1873 and died 17 May 1955. married (1) Henry Murphy (2) Newt Williams married 16 Aug 1890 and (3) James A. Smith. She is buried in Queen City Cemetery.
6. Milo Wilson was born in 1875 married Ebbie Cora Williams 14 January 1897. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Macedonia, Arkansas and she is buried in Queen City Cemetery.
7. George H. was born October 1876 and died October 1908. He married (1) Maggie DOBBS 24 December 1899 (2) Susie BOBO 04 September 1904. Susie was born 24 December 1885 and died 15 December 1965. She is buried in Antioch Cemetery next to her second husband John L. Finley. George is buried in an unmarked grave in Old Liberty Cemetery.
8. Luella Jane was born 06 August 1880 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa and died 27 September 1886. She is buried in Green Hill Cemetery in Titus County, Texas
9. Zachary W. 24 September 1883 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa and died 21 September 1886. He is buried in Green Hill Cemetery in Titus County, Texas.
Three BOBO women married three Plum men. All three of the men had been married, lost their wives and each one of them had 1 son. Willie BOBO married Robert Luther, Susie BOBO married George H. and Jennie BOBO married Charles Alexandra. The Plum family has been traced from Virginia, then to Des Moines Twp. Mahaska County, Iowa before they came to Mt. Pleasant, Texas and finally settling at Knights Bluff. The original John C. Plum homesite was located at what is now Atlanta State Park at Knights Bluff, Texas.
Robert Luther Plum is the son of John C. and Leah Jane HUFFMAN and was born 16 November 1871 and died 26 November 1934. He married (1) Idellia Thomas and had one son Clarence Weaver. Clarence was born 09 April 1894, died 01 January 1972., married Sarah Elizabeth HOLT and they had the following children: Ernest Weaver, Raymond O’Rear, James Chester, and Lois Lorine. Idellia died and he married (2) Willie BOBO 06 September 1898, daughter of James William and Pamelia TRIMBLE Bobo. She was born 01 November 1878 and died 26 April 1943. Robert and Willie are buried in Courtland Cemetery.
Robert Luther and Willie had the following children:

Garden Jeff was born 01 October 1904 and died 07 July 1975. He married Eunice Mae MONDAY born 01 May 1908 - died 10 September 1958. They married 15 December 1926 and had the following children: Mozelle, Melba Rose, Doris Faye, Willa Dean & Waylon. They are both buried in Queen City Cemetery.
Rosa Lee was born 06 May 1907 and died 09 February 1982. She married John Wiley Flanagan 05 September 1926 and they had the following children: James Edward, Bobby Ray & Betty Rose & John Wiley, Jr. They are both buried in Courtland Cemetery.
Infant Boy born and died 1908?
Permelia Jennie was born 10 August 1909 and died 30 October 1996 She married John C. Harper 15 June 1929 and they had the following children: Judy Lynn, Harold Weyburn, and Shirley Ann. She is buried in Courtland Cemetery, but John is buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California.
Infant Boy born and died January 1916.
Cranford O’Neal was born 07 June 1917 and died 26 December 1998. He married Avenell MCCARTY 28 September 1945 and had 1 child Cheryl Jean. Cranford is buried in Courtland Cemetery.
