Jacob Dude Turner Memorial Tournament cancelled this year
BURN BAN LIFTED
The 10th Annual Jacob Dude Turner Memorial Scholarship Team Catfish Tournament was set this year for Sept. 26-28 at Rocky Point Pavilion, Lake Wright Patman. Unfortunately, due to family illness they will have to postpone the event till next year.
Next year’s date is set for October of 2020, so stay tuned. The Ron Watson band is scheduled to play and they are looking for more auction items for the event.
The foundation was established in order to give back to the community in Jacob’s memory.
J.G. Tuner said the tournament is in memory of his son who always enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors and fishing.
“He was a good boy and had a good heart,” Turner said. This year the foundation awarded four scholarships to Linden-Kildare graduates, distributed funds to teachers through grants and donated to local community organizations including, Big Bird Crawfish Boil, teacher grants, Cass County Coon Hunters for cystic fibrosis, and the Cass County Rodeo Association.
Turner said the funds raised through the fishing tournament will continue to support local community events and organizations.
He says whatever they raise “we give it all away.”
Jacob’s father said participation in the annual tournament continues to grow each year.
The tournament is organized by families and friends. Without the support of the community the event wouldn’t be possible.
Jacob’s untimely death has been hard on the Turner family over the years but the annual event has brought comfort to Jacob’s family and friends as they celebrate his life surrounded by extended family members and numerous friends at the lake.
Turner said it is through the hard work of lots of volunteers that make this fundraising event possible. Adding, volunteers do a fantastic job each year.
He appreciates all of the people who contribute and support the Turner Foundation. A special thanks to all of the sponsors and volunteers.
Turner said the event gets better each year and continues to grow.
He hopes this year’s event is bigger and better than ever.
Jacob’s father is disappointed that it didn’t come to pass this year. However he is looking forward to next year. This is a great opportunity for grandparents, fathers and sons to come together and fish. Turner said that is what is so exciting about it, seeing all those grandfathers, dads and sons together.
“You don’t have to be camping or fishing to see all this excitement over the weekend,” Turner said. “Just come out and joined in.”
Donations for the auction may be dropped off at the home of J.G. Turner or call him and he will be happy to pick up the items. Turner added, all donations are accepted and appreciated.
“It is our honor to share your support with our local children and supporters,” Palmer said.
