Introducing Jamie Jeans
Editor’s note: I want to thank Jamie for her hard work. When Jamie came in for the first time we both concluded that it would probably be too far for her to drive to work. Having a 45-minute commute didn’t seem reasonable. A few days later I asked her if should be willing to cover an event. She agreed. She did such a good job I asked her if she would be willing to cover the Sun until we found someone closer. She agreed and we were very happy with her job and she really liked the community and was happy to be here so we are officially bringing her on. We are very happy with the work she is doing. Stop by and say hi to her sometime.
Growing up, Superman was always my world. I swore I was going to marry him someday. But, what I wanted more than anything else was to be just like Lois Lane. I had a love of words since I was very young. Reading has always been one of my favorite ways to relax and I always wanted to be able to tell these amazing stories or go on exciting assignments like Lois.
My life for the first fourteen years was filled with travel, living in new places, making new friends, and experiencing things most don’t get the chance to. My Dad served twenty years in the ARMY so for fourteen years my Mom and I went where he was stationed. That is why I was born in Germany. That is why I have seen the beautiful beaches in Spain and the famous La Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona, Spain, the coast of California and the giant redwoods that grace parts of the state, and even the Chriskindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany, which is one of the oldest recorded Christmas markets in Germany.
While living in Germany, I watched as the space shuttle Challenger crashed in 1986. Our last year in Louisiana, I watched as the Berlin Wall was torn apart. In California, I was two hours away from the riots in LA in 1992. All of the places I have been, all of the major news events I’ve seen, they have shaped me and my approach to life. But more importantly, they have shaped the way I write.
When my dad retired, we landed in a small town called Bogata here in Texas. I spent my formative years living in a small-town life. I graduated from Rivercrest High School where one teacher, Mrs. Barbara Russell, pushed me to challenge myself and my writing. After graduation in 1999, I moved on to Paris Junior College where I ended up majoring in law. After graduating from there with an Associates in Science, I ended up working spending most of my career in customer service.
But writing was always there. And after being laid off from my last job I decided to spend some time at home, writing.
This leads me to where you find me now. A writer for The Cass County Sun. I credit my best friend, Brandy Slifer, for finding me this job.
And yet, to me, it’s not really a job. I enjoy every day going to work. I enjoy the opportunity to write about the town of Linden. I also get to do something I have always loved.
Superman may not always swoop down and save me from some dangerous situation, but I get to write about the things that really matter.
