Hometown Christmas set for Saturday
The annual Hometown Christmas activities will go on as planned this Saturday, with just a few alterations due to COVID-19. Wristbands are $5.00 each and are available at the Chamber of Commerce office.
The Santa brunch, normally held the morning of the event on Hiram Street with limited tickets available, has turned into Santa home visits, complete with hot cocoa and breakfast sweets for the kids and coffee for the parents. A professional photographer will be travelling with Santa to take photos. The tickets start at $50.00 each and are available at santavisits. eventbrite. com until they are gone. Time of the event is 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
The festival starts at 4:00 p.m. Saturday night and runs to 9:00 p.m. Activities will be taking place all over the downtown area, including: a snow play area, big snow slide in the parking area across from Luigi’s Italian Restaurant; Carolers will be singing at the Veteran’s Plaza; Santa Claus will be set up at Atlanta Floral for photo ops; Live reindeer will be located at the Plaza on Main; Reindeer treats can be bought at Fit Family Nutrition; Cookie treats can be found at Camelot Manor; A candy cart will be located on Hiram Street; visit Santa’s Workshop at Old Rustic Treasures; A petting zoo with camels and pony rides will be set up at the Chamber of Commerce.
“We know this year has been weird. COVID has really messed a lot of things up, but we think it’s important to show our children that the Spirit of Christmas is still alive and well, especially in our beloved hometown. So, the show goes on,” said Lisa Thompson, a member of the Atlanta Area Young Professionals Association and volunteer organizer of the event. “We’ve made a lot of changes to try and keep everyone safe, but ultimately, we’re relying on parents to make sure masks are worn and we try to socially distance. Santa will be behind glass, and all the activities outdoors. As usual, wristbands are only $5, so we hope it’s affordable for everyone. Bundle up and come see us!”
