LAWRENCE AND ELIZA C. HARRIS HATCHER J. Laurence Hatcher was born 1 October 1845 In Anderson County, South Carolina. He grew up and there he was married about 1865 to Eliza Harris.

Eliza C. Harris was born 25 September 1844 in South Carolina. She was the daughter of Thomas N. and Louisa (Carruth) Harris.

Lawrence and Liza Hatcher spent the first part of their married life in Anderson Co., South Carolina, and part of their eleven children were born there. During the 1870’s Lawrence Hatcher decided to move his family to Texas. He bought & farm near Avinger in Cass County and there the rest of their children were born.

J. Lawrence Hatcher died of apoplexy on 25 March 1905. He was buried in the Simmons cemetery, Marion County, Texas.

Eliza C. Hatcher survived her husband ten years. She died 13 October 1915 and was buried beside Lawrence in the Simmons cemetery.

Their children were: 1. John Monroe, 1867, married Dora Elizabeth Holt and had issue.

2. James (“Jim”), married Sarah Owens. 3. Charles Harrison, 1870-1918, married first, Julia Elizabeth Foster, five children married second, Lucy Scott, four children.

4. Anna T., 1875-1928, married William B. Beal. 5. William, 1877-?, married four times. 6. Richard H., 1879-?, married Theodocia Cromer, et al, and had issues.

7. Martha (twin), 1881-7, married John S. Shelton. 8. Mary (twin), 1881-?, married J. M. Paris. 9. Robert, 1886-?, married Georgia ( ? ). 10. Emily, died at age 12. 11. Ellen, married a Cromer. CHARLES (“RED CHARLIE”) HARRISON HATCHER Charles “Red Charlie” Harrison Hatcher was born in August 1870 in South Carolina. He was the son of J. Lawrence and Eliza C. (Harris) Hatcher. He was known as “Red Charlie” because of his red hair, and to identify him from another Charlie Hatcher.

When about eight years old, Charlie moved with his parents from Anderson County, South Carolina to Cass County, Texas. His parents bought a farm near Avinger, and Charlie grew up there.

On 17 October 1891 in Cass County, Charlie took for his wife, Julia Elizabeth Foster, who was born 21 October 1867 in Arkansas. To them were born five children.

Julia Elizabeth contracted malaria in the fall of 1903. She died 5 November of that year and was buried in the Simmons cemetery, Marion County, Texas.

Red Charlie remained a widower for several years. Then on 20 December 1909 he married Lucy Scott. To this union four children were born* Red Charlie died in 1918. Sometime after her husband’s death, Lucy (Scott) Hatcher was married to a Mr. Teasley. They made their home in the Shiloh Methodist community of Cass County; Her death date is unknown.

The children of Red Charlie and Julia Elizabeth were: Henry W., 1892-1959, married Hermie Haynes; Myrtle Arline, 1894--?, married a Duncan; Lennie, married a Herren; Fannie, married a Decco; and William C., 19031904.

The children of Red Charlie and Lucy were Lorana, married a Smith; Cora, married a Blair; Dolley Luvenia, 1915. married Thomas Allen Walker; and Rayburn, ca 1917, deceased, married and had one daughter.

WILLIAM THOMAS AND HANNAH LOUISE HATCHER William Thomas Hatcher was born in January 1848 in Anderson County South Carolina, and that is where he grew to manhood.

About 1868 he was married in Anderson County, to a daughter of C. B. Harriss. There were no children and she died soon after their marriage. His second marriage also occurred in Anderson County. About 1869 he married Hannah Louise Harriss, a younger sister of his first wife.

Hannah Louise was born 10 June 1852 in Anderson County. She was the daughter and last of eleven children of C. B. and Hannah (Thomason) Harriss. Will and Lou Hatcher lived in Anderson and Oconee Counties in South Carolina, during the first years of their marriage. Will was a farmer. He also loved to fish. To supplement their farm income. Will worked for a while as a night-watchman, and Lou worked as a spinner/weaver at the Pendleton Cotton Mill. In the winter of 1887-1888, they joined a group of 18 families and moved to Cass County, Texas, where Will bought a farm northwest of Lanier. There Will and Lou remained the rest of their lives. They became the parents of ten children.

In 1898 Lou became ill. She died July 8th of that year and was buried in the Caves Springs cemetery, Cass County, TX.

Will was married for the third time on 21 November 1900 to Ella (Cromer) Lee, a widow.

Ella Cromer was born in 1861 in South Carolina. She was the daughter of Isaac Cromer. She married first in South Carolina to William Lee. They had seven children. William Lee died in 1894 in Cass County, and was buried in the Linden cemetery.

Upon her marriage to Will Hatcher, Ella brought her younger Lee children to live at the Hatcher homestead. She and Will had no children.

In 1912 Will broke his hip. It didn’t heal properly, and he died of complications of that injury on 22 August 1913. He was buried beside Lou (Harriss) Hatcher in the Cave Springs cemetery.

Ella (Cromer) Lee Hatcher survived Will 34 years. She died in 1947 in Cass County and was buried beside her first husband in the Linden cemetery.

The children of William Thomas and Hannah Louise Hatcher were Dora C., 1870-1890, married Isaac Perry Gilbert. They had one child. Augusta Ann, 1873-1961, married Daniel Andrew Leroy. They had 13 children. Samuel Marion, 1876-1965, married Effie Delorn Hatcher. They had 6 children. William Wesley, 1879-1952, married Evey Lena Brooking. They had 7 children. Levi Javan, 1881-1960, married Ella Lydia Lee, no children, but they reared Levi’s niece. Lucinda Haseltine. 1884-1941, married Norman Ledford Graham. They had 10 children. Johnis Furman, 1886-1908, unmarried. Oscar Andrue, 18891974, married Bessie Mae Corbett. They had 6 children. Althalinda Mahulda, 1891-1909, married L. M. (Mack) Ledford. They had 1 child. Theador H., 1894-1894.

SAMUEL MARION AND EFFIE DELORN HATCHER Samuel Marion Hatcher was born in Anderson County, South Carolina on 22 March 1876. He was the third of ten children of William Thomas and Hannah Louise (Harriss) Hatcher.

Sam was eleven when his parents migrated to Cass County, Texas. He grew to manhood on his father’s farm northwest of Lanier.

On 26 October 1896 he took for his wife, his first cousin, Effie Delorn Hatcher. They were married at the home of Effie’s parents. Effie Delorn Hatcher was born 2 February 1881 in Anderson County, S. C. She was the daughter of Taylor King and Eliza Elizabeth (Simmons) Hatcher. Her parents moved to Texas in the winter of 1887-1888, and settled in Cass County.

Sam was a farmer. He and Effie were members of the Shiloh Methodist Church. To them were born six children.

Sam died 13 November 1965 at the age of 89. He was buried in the Shiloh Methodist cemetery. Effie Delorn (Hatcher) Hatcher survived her husband only three months. She died 6 February 1966 and was buried beside Sam in the Shiloh Methodist cemetery.

The children of Sam and Effie were Alice Annie Fair, 1897, married James Madison Flarity. They had nine children. Bertie Eliza, 1898-1930, married Markes Weldon. Lacy had four children. Thomas Sinclair, 1901-1945. married Luvina Flarity and. had four children. Lola Beatrice, 1902-? , married Thomas Watson Gholson, and had four children. Leon King, 1906-1960, married Oleta Duval, had three children. James Esco, 1909-1962, married Lorraine Mercer. They had two children.
