An Evening in the Round

Grammy-winning performers Linda Davis, Lang Scott and songwriter-comedian Bill Whyte are set to take the stage for “ An Evening In The Round” at Memorial City Hall Performance Center on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

This intimate night of acoustic music will be injected with hits, humor and a whole lot of down-home appeal. The audience can expect to hear some familiar tunes by some of today’s hottest artists, as well as Whyte’s own brand of sometimes twisted but always funny songs.

Linda Davis, a proud member of The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, is best known for her Grammy-winning duet with Reba McEntire, “Does He Love You,” touring with the late Kenny Rogers for 20 years and for being the mother of Lady A’s front woman Hillary Scott.

Linda has amassed her own hits and awards throughout her 35+ years of touring and entertaining audiences around the world. Her contributions to country music and Texas heritage make her a treasure to fans far and wide.

Davis now lives in Nashville, but was born in Carthage, Texas. She told us in a telephone interview last week that she still has many friends and family spread across Northeast Texas. She said, “Every time I am invited to the East Texas area it is pretty much going to be yes. It is always nice to visit there and see friends we have made over the years at the show.”

Davis has family in New Boston including cousins Joe Dean Britton and Terry May and she has also fostered a friendship with Chamber and SIDC administrative director Heather Wilson.

Lang Scott, a Grammy-winning musician and accomplished vocalist, rounds out this powerhouse trio. As the husband of Linda Davis and father of Lady A’s Hillary Scott, Lang brings a unique blend of talent and musicianship that perfectly complements this magical, musical evening. A former recording artist for MCA Records, Lang was also the 1st National Champion of the You Can Be A Star contest on The Nashville Network.

Bill Whyte is a songwriter, comedian, and radio broadcaster from Missouri with a decades-long career. His songs have been recorded by Ray Stevens, Joe Nichols, Cledus T. Judd, Linda Davis, and others. He co-wrote Safe Haven on Hillary Scott & The Scott Family’s Grammy-winning album Love Remains and Finger Pickin’ Good for Kristy Cox, which won Australia’s 2020 Golden Guitar Award for Best Bluegrass Recording. Bill has hosted morning radio shows in multiple cities and won the 1991 CMA Award for Best Large Market Radio Personality. In 2012, he was inducted into the Country Radio Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Evening In The Round is a refreshing take on the classic Nashville songwriter round, where the artists share the stories behind the songs, perform in an acoustic setting, and engage the audience in a relaxed, upclose experience. Whether you’re a longtime country music fan or simply enjoy great live performances, this show is not to be missed.

Of this special show Davis says, “Lang and I just kind of weave in and out and we just take turns. We have so many stories we have to make time for the songs. We are seasoned artists instead of old—we have seen a bunch and done a bunch and all of that comes with stories and we just have to tell the audience about it. We are also very proud of our kids and there is going to be a little bit of braggin. We have three grandkids and one on the way from our daughter Hillary. We call this in the round. That is a throwback to the Bluebird Café where songwriters get in a circle, three or four chairs, and each songwriter takes a turn. That’s how in the round got started. We want it to feel like we are up close and personal, like we are sitting in their living room.”

The performance is scheduled for Saturday, March 8, 2025.

The concert begins at 7:30 PM promising an evening that fans won’t soon forget.
