Emmons named Journal-Sun General Manager

Longtime Cass County Citizens Journal-Sun sports editor Tim Emmons has been named the new General Manager of your hometown community newspaper. His new role at the newspaper became effective on Monday.

Emmons has worked at the Journal-Sun for 13 years, primarily as the Sports Editor. Over those years, his main job was to write articles and take photographs at sporting events for our local schools. Over time, he has branched out into writing feature stories, news articles, newspaper layout, conducting interviews, making videos, and more.

Emmons is a 1999 graduate of Atlanta High School. He and his wife Ashley have two kids, Ethan and Camden. Tim says, “I’m excited for the next step in this journey as General Manager of the Journal-Sun.”

Northeast Texas publisher Kenny Mitchell has been named the new publisher at the Journal-Sun. Mitchell brings 25 years of experience in the newspaper industry to his new role, including nine years at the Dallas Morning News. He is currently also the publisher of the Bowie County Citizens Tribune.

Mitchell says, “I am excited about this new opportunity and what it will mean to the readers and advertisers here in Cass County. We will be working hard to bring our readers the best possible newspaper. My email address is kenny@casscountynow.com. Feel free to let me know what you would like to see in your paper. I am always eager to hear what our readers have to say.”

“Tim has been with us since 2012 and as a local, knows Cass County very well,” said Northeast Texas Publishing, LP group manager Mark Henry. “He has worked in all aspects of a community newspaper and has demonstrated the willingness and ability to work hard for the readers, advertisers and communities we serve.”

“Kenny has also been with us since 2012 and has published other Northeast Texas newspapers like the Bowie County Citizens Tribune, Mount Pleasant Tribune, Steel Country Bee in Daingerfield and Pittsburg Gazette,” Henry added. “We are convinced the combination of Tim and Kenny will better serve Cass County residents, communities, schools and more.”

Former publisher Shawn Larson resigned to pursue other opportunities.
