Emergency Services District 2 appreciation banquet

Cass County Emergency Services District 2 held its annual appreciation banquet Dec. 8 at the First Methodist Church in Queen City. Some 80 citizens of the district turned out for the appreciation event that the ESD holds for its members and families.

The services’ district Christmas party is now in its 19th year. Its purpose is to tell the community of the volunteers’ work and let members and families meet each other. Awards of achievement are announced.

A guest speaker will provide a spirited talk to the community. This year, Chief Eric Neal of the Balch Springs Fire Department delivered a message on the quality of being a fireman.

The ESD - 2 has some 20 volunteer fire department members and some 20 cadets. The following were this year’s major award recipients.

— Fireman of the Year — Cash Beard — Cadet of the Year — Andres Campos — Cadet Andes Campos promoted to captain, and cadets Juan Campos and Kaden Satterfield promoted to lieutenant. Firefighter David Jackson promoted to captain.

— Kilgore College Fire Academy Graduates — Connor Alexander, Cash Beard, Carson Sullivan and Brandon Miller The district has more than doubled its central station size in Queen City and created a flag installation at its central station all accomplished by volunteers as led by Assistant Fire Chief Eric White with the direction of Fire Chief Chuck Wertz.

The CCESD — 2 is a combination of three fire stations and covers 165 square miles of what used to the old political precinct three. The district includes the areas of Queen City, Domino, Antioch, Piney Grove and Laws Chapel “We believe that a volunteer fire department is not something you should be able to drive past and not know what it is. It should stand out as something to be proud of, not something you don’t know anything about until the moment you need it and make a call,” White said.
