Eagle Scouts honored

On Monday, July 6, a ceremony was held for five young men who have demonstrated leadership and character through the planning, organization, coordination and delivery of a service project within their community. Those five young men who demonstrated these qualities were proudly inducted into the Eagle Scouts.

Drake Black’s project was called “Night Eyes”. He installed 50 blue reflectors on the streets around Atlanta to mark locations of fire hydrants. Hydrants can be difficult for the Fire Department to locate at night. These reflectors show a bright blue color at night, allowing firefighters to quickly find and connect to the water supply. In firefighting, every second saved getting to the fire, increases the chances of saving lives and property.

Stephen Chickadel’s project was to clean and repaint a counseling room for Mission Texarkana with donated materials from Price Hardware. Cody Howard of Mission Texarkana wanted the room to match the rest of the building as part of an effort to help those receiving counseling feel more at ease.

James Holland Joslin’s (or J or James) project was a LifeShare blood drive, held in conjunction with the Pumpkin Patch Festival at the First United Methodist Church of Atlanta. The goal for the day was 14 units, and over 30 were collected. Due to the success of the drive and the total amount, he donated while in high school, he was awarded a Life Share Scholarship.

Clayton Primrose’s project consisted of two parts. First, he cleaned a pond at Queen City High School. Second, he built five artificial structures to place in the pond to improve the fish’s habitat.

Garin Dupree’s project was a 5k run on Feb. 22 in Atlanta. He was raising money to buy trauma kits for local law enforcement officers. His goal was 15 and he was able to purchase 23.
