Danie Futruel Daniel Fortune family
My grandmother Danie Futruel Daniel was born July 07, 1918 in Cass County and died February 19, 1989 in Longview, Gregg County, Texas. She was the daughter of William Eguart Daniel and Emma Mae Williamson. She is shown on the right in the photo here with her sister Ava “Daughty” Geraldine Daniel. Danie married Cleve Fortune August 05, 1937 in Cass County. He was born August 20, 1913 in Cass County and died there April 12, 1977. He was the son of Edgar Marshall Fortune and Elizabeth Anne Peck of Cass County.
Danie and Cleve had two children, Brenda Joyce, and Joe David. Granny meant the world to me. I admired her for all the years she nursed Granddad, during his illness. She couldn’t drive and she used to love to have her grandkids drive her around. After Granddad died, she moved to town and stayed there until her death. She did still love to go see the “old home place” but I don’t think she missed the place as much as people thought she did. I’m sure she missed Granddad and their life there but not the place. After I married, we would come home on leave from the military and would stay with her. She’d move all her knickknacks up off the shelves so that the children wouldn’t even be tempted. She would use the hard to open safety caps on her medicine instead of the way she normally had them to be sure that the children didn’t get into them. Even though the other way was so that she could open them easily. She cared a lot about our visits and making us comfortable. Danie was a Charter member of Bible Baptist Church Hughes Springs. Danie and Cleve are buried in Hughes Springs Cemetery.
Danie’s father William Eguart Daniel was born June 28, 1878 in Mississippi and died April 19, 1944 in Cass County. He was the son of James A. Daniel and Eliza Jane Sanders. He married Emma Mae Williamson May 20, 1898 in Kiblah, Miller County, Arkansas. Emma Mae Williamson was born March 21, 1877 in Louisiana and died May 29, 1958 in Naples, Morris County, Texas. William and Emma shown to the right in this photo with his brother Everlee and wife Ruah. William Eguart and Emma Mae are both buried at Center Hill Cemetery.
Will’s WWI draft registration card describes him as medium height, slender build, dark eyes, and black hair. William was a Deacon at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church formerly named Black Cypress Baptist Church. Other children of William Daniel and Emma Williamson were: Cordie Octavia Daniel was born March 15, 1899 in Cass County and died there July 11, 1975. She married Alford N. Doss November 04, 1916 in Cass County. He was born April 28, 1894 in Cass County and died there March 06, 1972. Cordie Octavia and Alford Doss are both buried at Laws Chapel Cemetery. Cordie and Alford had William Newton, Jewel DOSS GREEN, OIlie Mae DOSS HENDERSON, Orval Taylor “Big Boy”, Ora Marie DOSS DIAL.
James Armon Daniel, born April 09, 1900 in Louisiana and died June 04, 1949 in Cass County. He married Willie Bertha King September 18, 1926 in Cass County. She was born December 06, 1901 in Texas and died February 02, 1987 in Cass County. James and Willie are buried at Caves Springs Cemetery. James and Willie had James Edward, Roy Wayne, Eddy Clair, Willie Lula, Laura Jean, Gladys M., Hazel Lee DANIEL HENSON, and Bob Don.
Jesse Holland Daniel was born September 06, 1904 in Bright Star, Arkansas and died September 04, 1959 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. He married first Edna E. King July 04, 1926 in Cass County. She was born April 23, 1906 and died December 29, 1938 in Cass County. Edna was a sister to Willie Bertha who married Jesse’s brother James. Jesse married second Nannie Jeanette Hall January 03, 1947 in Linden. She was born September 24, 1928 in Jefferson, Texas. Jesse and Edna are buried at Caves Springs Cemetery. Jesse and Edna had Jessie Lee, Margie Nell, Alford Jerry. Jesse and Nannie had Jessie Herman, Dairy Arnold, Rebecca Jeanette, Joyce Evelyn, and Kenneth Ray.
Gaston Daniel was born about 1908 in Texas and married first Glava Hogue. He married second Velma Lois Leroy. She was born October 27, 1913 in Cass County. She died June 08, 1980. Gaston and Glava had Jerry Kinneth. Felston Dorris Daniel was born August 28, 1909 and died November 25, 1991 in Dallas County, Texas. His wife Loretta of Balch Springs, Texas, survives him. Felston and Loretta had Jo Ann, Anna Ruth, Tommy Ray, and Jane.
Bradie Mae Daniel was born August 11, 1911 in Cass County and died there June 14, 1981. She married Scottie Price June 19, 1926 in Cass County. He was born February 21, 1905 in Kentucky and died March 17, 1974 in Linden. Bradie and Scottie are buried at New Bear Creek Cemetery. Bradie and Scottie had Kathryn, Emma Ruth, Doris Faye, Scottie, George Jeff, Betty Sue, and Danny. John Morris Daniel was born June 20,1915 in Cass County and died January 21, 1979 in Gregg County, Texas. He married Josephine Heldth November 01,1941 in Linden. John Morris buried at Antioch (Anti) Cemetery. His wife Josephine of Atlanta survives him. John and Josephine had Morris Edward, Joe Taylor, Andrew Lee, and William Ray.
Ava “Daughty” Geraldine Daniel was born May 29, 1920 in Cass County and died there January 1987. She married Willard “Diddy” Fortune August 05, 1937 in Cass County. He was born June 20, 1916 in Cass County and died December 27, 1974 in Longview, Gregg County, Texas. He was the brother of Cleve who married Danie. Ava and Willard are both buried at Hughes Springs Cemetery. Ava and Willard had Marshall Carol and Gaylon Lee. William’s father James A. Daniel was born October 20, 1834 in South Carolina and died June 02, 1926 in Cass County. He was the son of Ezekiel Daniel and Elizabeth. He married Eliza Jane Sanders September 14, 1866 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Eliza Jane Sanders was born June 07, 1845 in Mississippi and died March 07, 1902 in Cass County. She was the daughter of Thomas and Jane Sanders. James and Eliza are both buried at Center Grove Cemetery.
Other children of James Daniel and Eliza Sanders were Elvis Armstead Daniel was born June 1868 in Mississippi and married Elizabeth Seale in 1899. She was born November 1878 in Kemper County, Mississippi.
Grace Daniel, born about 1872 in Mississippi. Ella Jane Daniel was born 1874 and died 1920. She married Walter Mayberry Seale November 21, 1893 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. He was born 1874 in Kemper County, Mississippi and died 1955. Ella and Walter are buried at Center Hill Cemetery.
Nicholas Everlee Daniel was born January 20, 1882 in Mississippi and died September 12, 1949 in Linden. He married Ruah Jones December 31, 1900. She was born 1883 in Texas and died May 15, 1956. She, shown on the right of this photo with Emma (wife of William.) His WWI draft registration card describes him as medium height, medium build, black eyes, and black hair. Nicholas and Ruah are both buried at New Colony Cemetery.
F. Octavia Daniel was born January 1884 in Mississippi and died June 1927 in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas. She married first Ollie Armstrong January 29, 1899 in Kiblah, Miller County, Arkansas. He was born in Arkansas. She married second Charles O. Liles November 09, 1908 in Cass County. He was born March 05, 1858 in Pickens County, South Carolina and died August 16, 1909. She married third Henry E. Vaughan December 21, 1912 in Cass County. Octavia is buried at Center Hill Cemetery.
Danie’s mother Emma was the daughter of Wade H. Williamson and Annie L. Garrett of Louisiana and Arkansas. Wade H. Williamson was born about 1839 in South Carolina. He died about 1896. He was the son of Stephen and Rebecca Williamson. He married first Nancy. He married second Annie L. Garrett. She was born Between 1844-1848 in Mississippi or Alabama, and died after 1910. On the 1880 census Wade and Annie were living in Johnson, Union County, Arkansas.
