Cullen Baker Fair Update
While the theme of The Cullen Baker Fair is distinctly Old West, the planning that has been going on weekly for several months now...is anything but Old West. Every committee member has used an iPhone. Some...like myself...use them in limited ways. The younger, more savvy members treat them as their personal secretary...and rightfully so. The ever present phone can give you the correct information in a New York second...not a minute. Well, and you can count on never having a relationship problem with your phone...if you know what you are doing. If you don’t, well then technical problems take ALL the fun out of seeking and giving information. No one around me, at the meetings, seemed to have phone problems. Except, me, and I had lots of help with mine.
And, of course, it takes the human touch to lead. Our mayor, Delores Simmons can’t be beat. She has been ‘on call’ for some time now. Her work habits are amazing. She has many directions to go and lots of problems to solve. But even with the assistance of an iPhone, she still must tend to a myriad of matters that are stored in her head.
The committee has been wonderful. I’ve never before seen a more congenial group. Their talents, stamina and dedication to the job at hand boggle the mind. And getting The Fair going again is but one of their many responsibilities. All of them hold down day jobs, take care of kids and households plus fulfill their personal commitments with caring attitudes. They are all volunteers.
I’ve tried to do publicity. I’ve done it before but now, with the presence of Facebook, everybody can do publicity. The sharing game has taken care of that.
So as we come closer to The Big Day, I can truthfully say we have done as much as possible to return The Cullen Baker Fair to the people. About all that can be said now is, “Y’all come.”
