Crump’s undergoes remodel
Crump’s Food Stores were started on December 4, 1960, by M.D. and Vivian E Crump. On March 13, 2000 Crumps #3, the flagship of the parent company Crump Food Inc. was born. In May 2002 Chris Spencer, the biological grandson of the Crumps purchased the store.
“What excited us about Linden was it being the county seat, as well as the vibrant school district. Growing up in Hughes Springs, L-K was a big rival, with us coming up short most years,” said Spencer.
For the Crump family Linden has always been something special, says Spencer, “Linden has wonderful business leaders present and past that we have learned so much from. I think of leader’s past like B.B. Boon, Tom Lanier, Joe Lovelace, Fred Wilbanks, Wayne Rountree, and now Winston Sullivan. I remember Fred Wilbanks taking me to lunch shortly after we opened in 2000 to give me some pointers and encouragement. I wish he was still here now to speak with. And now the great current leadership like Frank Lanier, Mike Berry, Terry Elders, Malthus Northcutt, Marlon Sullivan, and others that I consider great friends. It is a blessing to be a part of Linden.”
About 20 years from the time of opening, Spencer believed it was time to give the grocery store a facelift. “Earlier in the year 2020 brought about major changes, not only for our country but our business. We embarked on a remodel from top to bottom, from new paint and refrigeration, LED lighting, new floors, to upgraded technology. Being over 20 years old, it was high time to make those structural and internal improvements. The increased business from the pandemic made the remodel much more intensive than what we had originally planned,” explained Spencer
Spencer is looking forward to this year to reintroduce Crump’s to the area, “In 2021, we are opening a second cutting room for our world-class meat department. This will enable us to launch our meat freezer box program, which will provide meat variety packs for our shoppers. We are very excited about this innovation. In addition, we will finally launch our curbside service for online orders and grocery pickup. In addition, we will be offering fresh sushi in the months to come, complete with a sushi chef.”
For those who have visited lately, they will notice something special is happening with Power’s Pharmacy. “Our partnership with Powers Pharmacy has been expanded. The pharmacy is now located on the east side of the store, complete with expanded room and selection, and a drive-thru made possible by an easement graciously provided by the Cass County Commissioner’s Court. We are very excited to have provided Linden and the surrounding area with a world-class supermarket and pharmacy, and customer service second to none,” says Spencer.
Spencer says that he is thankful to the local customers who have supported him all these years and thankful to the Lord that allowed him to be a part of the Linden community. “We are most grateful to God for His many blessings and favor to us.”
