Crash results in one fatality in Cass County

On October 5, 2020 at approximately 5:05 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were notified of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of SH8 and FM 995 in Cass County about five miles south of Douglasville. Preliminary investigation indicates a 2009 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound on SH 8. A 2005 GMC 5500 was traveling eastbound on FM 995. For an as yet undetermined reason, the driver of the GMC disregarded the stop sign and entered the intersection where it was struck by the Hyundai.

 

The driver of the Hyundai, David Rodgers, 42, of Wake Village, died at the scene. He was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Gina Bassham and taken to Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.

 

The driver of the GMC, Travis Morton, 32, of Texarkana, was treated at the scene and released.

 

A passenger of the GMC, John Rayburn, 17, of Simms, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
