County votes in midterm elections

Tuesday, November 8, people around the country went to the polls to vote their conscience. Republicans expected a better turnout nationally; what had high expectations for the party in late October turned out to be a lackluster showing. At the time that this article was written, the democrats held on to the Senate, and there is a toss-up in the house. Statewide, in Texas, it fared much better for the republicans. They held on to every major seat including the Governor’s office. Locally, there were only a few things that were voted on including a new County Sales tax for certain parts of the county, and our new United States Representative for District No. 1. Linden voted for District Trustees.

For the United States Representative’s office, District No. 1 (now our Cass County Representative), Republican Nathaniel Moran defeated Democrat Jnnar (JJ) Jefferson 8393 to 1456 respectively.

In the Linden-Kildare Consolidated Independent School District Trustee Place 5 race, Robby Johnson defeated Curtis Ray Harrison Jr., 1169 to 506. In the Linden-Kildare Consolidated Independent School District Trustee Place 6 race, Toby L Fuller defeated Shun Mitchell, 1118 to 563. In the Linden-Kildare Consolidated Independent School District Trustee Place 7 Tanya Bond ran unopposed with a total vote tally of 1475.

In the Cass County Assistance District 1 Proposition A, the measure was defeated, 4186 to 1893. The proposition would have increased sales taxes by 1.75% in certain areas within Cass County.
