County deputy to become K9 handler

Texas is the largest state in the country when it comes to landmass, and only second to California in population. With a border running 1,254 miles along Mexico—with drugs smuggled in daily—it should come as no surprise that statistics show a serious problem in the Lone Star state. One source can attest that methamphetamine is the biggest drug problem in East Texas alone, and that’s why Cass County Deputy Russell Anderson, wants to make a change.

Anderson is a deputy at Cass County Sheriff ’s Office and understands the need to control the flow of drugs in East Texas. “Drugs run high in Cass County and are affecting not only our family and friends, but our kids,” he said. That’s why his fiancée, Kayla Restelle, helped him organize a GoFundMe page to work toward his dream of becoming a K9 Deputy.

“I have always wanted to be a K9 handler since I got into law enforcement. I love dogs and I feel they are the best asset to law enforcement,” Anderson said. His hope is that, with the aid of a K9, drugs will be taken off the streets, out of loved ones’ hands, and out of reach of our children.

Once the GoFundMe goal is reached, Anderson and the K9 will attend on-site training, where he and the K9 will become acquainted and work together day after day. All donations will go straight to the K9 and anything over the budget will be used for veterinary bills and anything else the K9 might need, such as food and gear.
