Council discusses street repairs, mask mandate
Atlanta City Council met for their second regular meeting of the month on Monday, March 15. The meeting was opened with a discussion and voting on crack sealing and point repair maintenance in Woodland Lake Estates.
Due to recent extreme freezing temperatures, heavy snow fall, and ice, existing minor cracks in roadways have widened. Point repair maintenance was also discussed in regards to Miller Street and Polk/Allday Street, then expanding to other streets and repairing only major cracks and holes. All council members present voted yes to the repairs.
The council discussed the recent rescinding of the state mask mandate and whether they will continue to require those who enter City Hall to wear a mask or not.
While Governor Abbott has opened the state up one hundred percent and rescinded the mandatory mask mandate, he has allowed businesses and places like local governments the option to decide if they want to require them inside their facilities or not.
Four members of the council were present and after much discussion, the vote was three in favor of maintaining a mask mandate at City Hall and one dissenting vote. Until further notice, masks will continue to be required to enter City Hall.
Finally, it was noted that during a major storm that hit the area shortly after the snow storm, the Horn Lift Station on Highway 77, had three of its four pumps fail after it was struck by lightning. The system was already suffering from infiltration issues due to the amount of melt from the snow. Two emergency pumps were purchased and a lightening insurance claim will be filed.
