Community Veterans Day Celebration

The Cass County Citizens Journal-Sun and KAQC-TV have partnered together to sponsor the First Community Celebration in honor of local veterans. The event will take place at the Atlanta Veteran’s Plaza on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

The event will also serve as a town send-off party for Mayor Travis Ransom, who will deploy to Afghanistan after Thanksgiving. During the event, he will officially pass his gavel to Mayor Pro Tem Dean McDuff, transferring Ransom’s duties for the duration of his deployment.

Houston super lawyer and veteran Marine Captain Tony Buzbee, a native of Cass County, will be the guest speaker. Vietnam Veteran Major John Fox will lead Ransom, and other Army veterans, in The Soldiers Creed.

A special presentation will be made to the Atlanta Depot Museum by Tammie Duncan of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Patriotic music will be provided by the Atlanta High School band.

All veterans in attendance, as well as law enforcement and first responders who are veterans, will be recognized. The local VFW and American Legion, as well as girl and boy scouts, will also be present.

The event will be broadcast live on KAQC. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
