City council resumes in-person meetings

On May 11, the City of Linden held its first in-person council meeting since Governor Greg Abbott allowed the shelter in place order to expire at the end of April.

The minutes, bills, and bank statements from last month were approved.

Christophe Trahan with the Linden Economic Development Corporation was on hand to give updates on small businesses in Linden and the continued options available to them during this time.

Trahan announced that Linden has not lost a single business to Covid-19 hardships.

While many businesses shut their doors or at least alter their service to curbside pickup, all businesses were able to remain.

The city is still looking into a grant that would allow the repair of the downtown area.

These repairs would be fifty percent streets and fifty percent sidewalks and could also potentially include beautification and some conveniences for potential vendors.

Damages from storms were discussed. There is no curbside pickup for any large storm damage items such as tree debris.

However, the dump is open by appointment to take large items and amounts.

Linden Police reported 29 traffic stops, one possession of drug paraphernalia, 52 service calls, one vehicle accident, and animal calls are on the rise, particularly dog calls.
