City Council appoints Danica Porter city manager
Atlanta Mayor Marshall James Brooks announced that the City Council has appointed Danica Porter to become the next City Manager of Atlanta, Texas following the retirement of longtime City Manager David Cockrell. Porter has been employed at the City of Atlanta for the past 11 years and her most recent role was the Director of Finance/City Clerk. Danica holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Texas A&M University - Texarkana.
Mayor Brooks said, “Danica is a solid choice for the City Manager role and the entire Council looks forward to serving with her in the coming years.” Porter is a member of the Texas Municipal Clerks Association and the Government Finance Officers Association of Texas.
She is married to Tony Porter who is a route manager for Waste Management. They have two daughters, Antonia, and Alyssa, who keep them busy with sports. In her free time, you can find her in the stands cheering on her daughters.
“Some of the things I would like to help facilitate,” says Porter, “as city manager is to help promote economic growth. I want to see our downtown continue to grow, our business park to flourish with new business. I want to see some type of kid friendly entertainment here in Atlanta. Last and certainly not least, I want to add more living options such as, single family homes, apartments, or duplex.”
Porter is thankful for the opportunity to further serve the community. “First, I want to say thank you to the Atlanta Mayor, City Council, City Manager David Cockrell, City of Atlanta Employees, Residents and Public for the kind words. Atlanta is a great city with so much to offer and the potential for so much more. I am committed to open communication with all citizens of Atlanta.
