Children donate 42 bikes to Toys for Tots
First United Methodist Day School 2019 Character-In-Action Program appointed all “Day School” children as “CIA agents” with a “mission” to perform simple chores for money and/or take donations. They included all ages in their programs from infants through school-age children.
Their “Character-In-Action Program” is done in three phases:
Phase 1 – Fieldwork – perform chores and/or take donations in the month of November
Phase 2 – Report back to Command Central early December / purchase of bikes
Phase 3 – Complete mission – Our Pre-K 4 agents assist with delivery and loading of bikes with Marine Corps personnel
Their mission resulted in a total of $2,268.83 being brought back to Command Central which allowed them to purchase 42 bikes. Their mission also received 10 new bikes for a total of 52 bikes purchased or donated to the Cass County Toys for Tots campaign which benefits area children; chairperson is Megan Adcock.
“The Character-In-Action program is a great way to give back to the community while teaching our children to be givers. I started this program at Wadley Child Care & Development Center in the ‘90s and God blessed it there as well,” says Kim Cullins the FUMC Day School Director.
“This program provides a great way to involve children in helping other children while learning the importance of giving and doing unto others,” continued Cullins.
FUMC wants to give “special thanks to Walmart personnel for the amazing support and help in getting these bikes assembled and for helping to load them on the church vans. As well as a very special thanks also to the Marine Corps personnel and volunteers who assisted us in loading bikes.” FUMC Day School says…..“It is a blessing to be a blessing.”
